Please feel free to browse my Alaska landscape and nature photography website displaying and selling landscape and nature photography from Alaska and many other locations. A sampling of my fine art and stock photos can be found in the: Western Landscape & Nature Photography Gallery.
Watkins Nature Photography History:
In 1991, I began to photograph on a professional basis, through the selling of prints. Over the course of the next three years, I made several submissions to various editorial clients and finally broke through with my first published image in the November 1994 issue of Alaska Magazine. This modest image of a panting bull caribou in the Field Notes section would lead to being further published in Alaska and other magazines.
In October of 1993, Alaska Stock Images began representing my work to editorial, advertising, note card, foreign and later internet clients. This stock agency specializes in Alaska subjects and has significantly broadened my reach into various markets over the years.
My photography has continued to evolve with continued exploration into the natural realm, as well as delving more into outdoor recreational and tourism related subjects.
This has led me to photograph in various parts of North America, from Alaska to Florida including deserts, mountains, forests, and seascapes and various types of birds and mammals. The future will undoubtedly bring more travel to areas within North America and abroad to further explore the natural realm with my camera and lens.
In the spring of 2002, I delved into the Internet with the introduction of my website: WatkinsNaturePhotography.com. This website is partnered with NancyScans a professional quality lab specializing in high resolution digital printing techniques located in Chatham, New York.
The website has allowed me to present images and content to potential customers on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis and still allows me to continue photographing.
NancyScans handles customer orders and service, printing, and the shipping aspects of the operation. Although, when I am not out in the field, I am always available for questions or to handle any problems that may arise.
This has revolutionized filling fine print and stock orders, as what once took upwards of five weeks to fulfill, now takes 24 hours. Thereby, greatly benefiting the customer with rapid turnaround and fine art prints of rich and dynamic color, with incredible detail. Additionally, the life of these Krist’l Fine Art prints has been rated at over 60 years, giving the customer a fine art image that they will enjoy for years to come.
This type of dynamic printing process was not available in most traditional means of processing (Cibachrome would have been the exception) in years past and is far more environmentally friendly when compared to traditional processing.
Partnered with my photography is an inherent obligation to educate and promote the preservation of wildlife and wilderness. This I believe is essential for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well being for us as a society. I feel that without wilderness and wildlife, this world would be a lonely and desolate place; one lacking in inspiration, physical beauty, and the emotional and spiritual renewal that wilderness promotes.
It is this obligation that has led me be active and report on various issues that impact wildlife, wilderness and the people who are either dependent on them and/or who recognize their intrinsic value and enjoy them.
